Science Facts in Qur'an

STUDY ISLAM - Islam is derived from the arabic word ‘salaam’ which means peace. It is a religion of peace whose fundamentals teach its followers to maintain and promote peace throughout the world. Many people misconception about Islam, many people thinks the religion of Islam came into existence 1400 years ago and Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is the founder of this religion. In fact, Islam exist since the first human set foot unto this world. And Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is the Messanger of Allah, Almighty God.

Islam is based on the teaching of the Holy Qur'an, It was revealed 1400 years ago by Allah to the prophet Mohammed through the angel Jibril or Gabriel. Is it possible, that today, the humanity can gain a guidance for how a life should be led from a book which is 1400 years old? Obviously, the answer is NO if the book was written by a human being. But the Glorious Qur'an is not written by human being, this Holy Qur'an is a words of Allah, The Almighty God. Al-Qur'an is the last revelation of God which revealed to the last and final messanger, prophet Mohammad (pbuh). For any books who claim that it is the words of God, for any books to prove that it is the revelation of Almighty God, it should stand the test of time.

The Glorious Qur'an was revealed at the time of poems and poetry, and everyone agree that Qur'an is the most beautiful poetry and poems ever made. Then came the age of miracle, and Al Qur'an is a miracle of the miracles. But today is the age of science and technology. whether the quran compatible or incompatible to modern science and technology? let's see.

Before continue, let me remind you, Al Qur'an is not a book of science, but a book of signs, book of ayaats. The Qur’an contains more than 6,000 ayaats, i.e. ‘signs’, out of which more than a thousand speak about Science. We do know that science many a times takes ‘U’ turns, therefore I have restricted the examples only to scientific facts which have sufficient proof and evidence and not scientific theories based on assumptions.

The Creation of the Universe

The origins of the universe described in the Qur'an in the following verses:

He is the creator of heaven and Earth. [QS. al-An'am 6: 101]

A description is given of the Holy Qur'an is full compatible with the invention of modern science. The conclusions obtained Astrophysics today is that the entire universe, with dimensions of matter and time, came into being as a result of a giant explosion happened in a flash. This event, known as the "Big Bang", form the entire universe is about 15 billion years ago. Universe was created from an absence, as a result of the explosion of a single point. Among modern scientists agree that the Big Bang is the only plausible explanation and can be proven about the origins of the universe and how the universe came into existence.

Before the Big Bang, there is nothing called as material. From the absence of the condition, in which the material, energy, even the time was not there, and was only able to be interpreted as metaphysical, but with the material, energy, and time. This fact, the recently discovered modern physicist, reported to us in the Qur'an 1400 years ago.

Highly sensitive sensors on COBE spacecraft satellite launched by NASA in 1992 succeeded in capturing the remaining radiation from the Big Bang explosion. This discovery was proof of the occurrence of the events of the Big Bang, which is a scientific explanation for the fact that the universe was created out of nothing.

do not the unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before We clove them asunder? We made from water every Living thing. will They not then believe? [QS. al-Anbiyaa 21:30]

The word "ratq", here translated as "one piece" used to refer to two different substances which form a unity. The phrase "We separate between the two" is a translation of the Arabic word "fataqa", and means that something came into existence through the event of separation or solving the structure of "ratq". Seed germination and emergence of shoots from the ground is one of the events that are expressed by using these words.

Let us examine this paragraph back based on this knowledge. In these verses, the heavens and the Earth is a subject of the adjective "fatq". The two then separated ("fataqa") to each other. Interestingly, when considering the initial stages of the events of the Big Bang, we understand that one single point contains all the material in the universe. In other words, everything, including "heaven and Earth" that had not yet been created, also contained in the single point that is still in a State of "ratq". This single point exploded so great, and causing the materials it contains for the "fataqa" (separate), and in the chain of events, the overall order of the universe was formed.

When we compare the explanation of the verse with a variety of scientific discoveries, we understand that both are really compatible with each other. Don't forget, these discoveries did not occur before the 20th century.

In the Field of Physics

Glory to Allah, who created in pairs all things that the earth produces, as well as their own (human) kind and (other) things of which They have no knowledge. [QS, Yaasin 36:36]

Although the idea of a "pairs" generally means the men and women, or male and female, the phrase "(other) things of which They have no knowledge" in the paragraph above have a broader scope. Now, the other meaning of the verse coverage has been revealed. United Kingdom scientist, Paul Dirac, who stated that the material was created in pairs, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1933. This discovery, called "parité", stating that the material paired with the opposite kind: anti-terrorist material. Anti-material has properties that are contrary to the material. For example, different material, electron anti-matter positively and negatively charged Proton is. This fact is stated in a scholarly source as follows:

"... every particle has anti-particles with opposite charge ... ... and relationship uncertainty tell us that the creation of the pair and pairing the destruction occurred in vacuum at any time, any place."

Furthermore, Iron is one of the elements that are clearly stated in the Qur'an. In Surat Al-Hadiid, meaning "iron", we are told as follows:

...and We sent down iron, In which is (material for) mighty war, as well as many benefits for mankind... [QS, al-Hadiid 57:25]

The word "anzalnaa" which means "We sent down" specifically used for iron in this paragraph, can be interpreted figuratively to explain that iron was created for the benefit of mankind. But when we consider the literal meaning of this word, i.e. "materials descended from the sky", we will realize that these verses have a very important scientific miracle. This is because the modern astronomical discoveries have revealed that the metal iron that is found on earth we come from giant stars in outer space.

Heavy metals in the universe is created and produced in the core of the giant stars. However, the solar system we do not have a suitable structure to produce iron independently. Iron can only be created and produced in stars is much larger than the Sun, which can reach several hundred million degrees. When the amount of iron has exceeded a certain limit in a star, the star can no longer afford them, and finally burst through an event called "nova" or "supernova". The result of the explosion, the meteors containing iron scattered in all corners of the universe and they are moving through a vacuum up to having the force of gravity exerted by space objects.

All this indicates that the element iron is not formed on Earth, but rather brought by all the meteors through a blast of the stars in space, and then "sent to the Earth", exactly as stated in the paragraph. It is clear that these facts be known scientifically in the 7th century, at a time when the Qur'an was revealed.

In the Fields of Biology

Let Him beware! if He desist not, we will drag Him by the forelock,- A lying, sinful forelock! [QS. al-Alaq 96:15-16]

The phrase "a lying, sinful forelock" in the paragraph above it's interesting. Research conducted in recent years reveals that the prefrontal, in charge of regulating the special functions of the brain, located on the front of the skull. Scientists are only able to find the function of this section during the last 60 years, while the Qur'an has mention it 1400 years ago. If we look at the inside of the skull, on the front of the head, we will find the frontal cerebrum (brain). The book entitled Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology, which contains the findings of the final results of the research on the function of this section, States:

The urge and desire to plan and initiate movements occur in the front lobby of the frontal, and the prefrontal. This is a region of Association cortex ...(Seeley, Rod R.; Trent D. Stephens; and Philip Tate, 1996, Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology, 2. edition, St. Louis, Mosby-Year Book Inc., s. 211; Noback, Charles R.; N. L. Strominger; and r. j. Demarest, 1991, The Human Nervous System, Introduction and Review, 4. edition, Philadelphia, Lea & Febiger, s. 410-411)

The book also says:
With regard to his involvement in generating thrust, the prefrontal area is also believed to be the functional Center for behavior of attack ...(Seeley, Rod R.; Trent D. Stephens; and Philip Tate, 1996, Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology, 2. edition, St. Louis, Mosby-Year Book Inc., s. 211)

So, this is also in charge of cerebrum region plan, give encouragement, and start the good and bad behavior, and is responsible for the words true and false.

It is clear that the phrase "a lying, sinful forelock" really refer to the explanation above. The fact that only known scientists during the last 60 years, God has been revealed in the Qur'an since the first

God tells us this important information about 14 centuries ago, which is known only through science recently, in its verse "...and his weaning is in two years..."

and we have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. his mother bore Him In weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to Your parents, unto Me is the final destination. [QS, Luqman 31:14]

In the Fields of Archeology

so This Day we shall deliver Your (dead) body (out from the sea) that You may be a sign to those who come after You! and Verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs , revelations, etc.). [QS, Yunus 10:92]

Maurice Bucaille was once a researcher mummy of Pharaoh in Egypt. On the mummy of Ramses II He found peculiarity, which is the very high salt content in the body. And then he found the answer in the Qur'an, it turns out this is the body of Pharaoh Ramses II who had drowned by Allah while pursuing Moses (pbuh).
Gospel & Torah only mentions that the sinking of Ramses II, but only the Qur'an which declared that his corpse saved by God Almighty, so that it can be a lesson for us all.

Note that the Prophet Muhammad lived 3000 years after the incident, and there is no way such information (survival of the body of Ramses II) could be found by Prophet Muhammad (as in the Gospel & the Torah was not called). Tomb of Pharaoh, Pyramids, a newly discovered buried in the ground by the archaeologist Giovanni Battista Belzoni in 1817. But the Qur'an can mention it because it is the word of Allah (not made by the Prophet Muhammad).

Article above is just a brief of the miracle of the Qur'an and Alhamdulillah it fits with modern science. I think, these two verses are very suitable to conclude this article.

This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah. [QS. al-Baqarah 2:2]
