Why Eating Pork is Forbidden?

| Sunday, November 6, 2011 | 0 comments

STUDY ISLAM - I think all people in the world already knew that a muslims is prohibited to consume a pork. There is a fact that a meat is contain a good protein which is good for health. But why Muslim prohibited to eat pork? What is the logical reason behind it?

First, The Holy Qur'an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places.

He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah. but if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is He guiltless. for Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful. [QS. Al-Baqarah 2:173]

Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah. that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety. This Day have those who reject Faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear Me. This Day have I perfected your Religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam As your religion. but if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. [QS. Al-Maaidah 5:3]

say: "I find not In the Message received by me by inspiration any (meat) forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it, unless it be dead meat, or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine,- for it is an abomination - or, what is impious, (meat) on which a name has been invoked, other than Allah.s". but (even so), if a person is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- Thy Lord is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. [QS. Al-An'am 6:145]

He has only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the of swine, and any (food) over which the name of other than Allah has been invoked. if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due then Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. [QS. An-Nahl 16:115]

Those ayat clearly said that eating pork is forbidden in islam. For Muslim it is easy to accept that, but what about non-muslims? Since they don't trust Qur'an, they will agree only if convinced through reason, logic and science. Through science now people can observe that pork full of dangerous material that can harm human's health. For someone who eating a pork there's a big chance to suffer no less than seventy different types of diseases. A person can have various helminthes like roundworm, hookworm, pinworm, etc. One of the most dangerous is Taenia Solium, which is in lay man’s terminology called tapeworm. It harbours in the intestine and is very long. Tapeworm's eggs or ova, enter the blood stream and can reach almost all the organs of the body. If it enters the brain it can cause memory loss, if it enters the eye it can cause blindness, if it enters the liver it can cause liver damage, if it enters the heart it can cause heart attack. In short, tapeworm can damage almost all the organs of the body.

There is more, another dangerous helminthes is Trichura Tichurasis. A common misconception about pork is that if it is cooked well, these ova will die. In a research project taken in US, it was found that out of twenty-four people suffering from Trichura Tichurasis, twenty two had cooked the pork very well. This fact indicates that the ova present in the pork do not die under normal cooking temperature.

The other reason is the pig is one of the filthiest animals ever lived. It lives and thrives on muck, faeces and dirt. It is the best scavenger that God has created. In the villages who don’t have a modern toilets, ussualy the villagers excrete in the open air, and very often excreta is cleared by pigs.

Some may argue that in advanced countries like Australia, pigs are bred in very clean and hygienic conditions. Even in these hygienic conditions the pigs are kept together in sties. So no matter how hard you try to keep them clean, they are filthy by nature. They eat and enjoy their own as well as their neighbour’s excreta.

There is always a very good reason why Allah SWT forbid us to do certain things. Insya-Allah I will discuss this matter more advance in the near future.
